Corrosion protection with wax

Corrosion protection with wax

Are you protecting your repairs against corrosion?

With today’s ever evolving substrates being used in automotive construction, industry organizations and OEMs alike specify the use of cavity wax to prevent corrosion. 3M™ Inner Cavity Waxes (amber or transparent) are a simple and effective way to ensure corrosion protection, one of the most important parts of automotive repairs.

  • Bare metal without protection after weathering / humidity exposure
  • Protected metal
Protected Metal - with working corrosion protection

Are you taking the steps to prevent corrosion today?

  • 3M™ Inner Cavity Wax (Amber, more liquid or Transparent, higher viscosity)

Non-hardening corrosion protection in a convenient aerosol can (for accessible areas) or 1 ltr (to be used with applicator for internal cavities).

    • Self-healing, corrosion protection for inner body panels, frame rails and structural enclosures.
    • When used according to directions 3M™ Inner Cavity Wax delivers the right amount of flow and wicking, providing consistent and uniform protection for your repair.
    • Eliminates the need for using antiquated and messy bulk spray technology to apply corrosion protection to a vehicle.
    • Provides access to inner body structures with tight tolerances. For inner areas, use with PN08997 3M™ Air-powered Applicator Gun.

Most OEMs call for the use of a corrosion protection product during vehicle repair.

  • Cavity Wax is:

    • Non – Hardening
    • Corrosion Resistant Chemistry

    Cavity Wax is Applied to:

    • Internal portion of auto body panels
    • Both replacement and repaired panels
    • Unprotected bare metal areas

Step by step guide:

  • Step 1

    Step 1

Use Inner Cavity Wax with any repair or replacement part, where you had structural components replaced or welded in.

After replacing the components and prior to final assembly, determine the area requiring cavity wax application.

Internal areas of body panel should be considered (also see OEM recommendations).

  • Step 2

    Step 2

Shake the can well (ca. 1 min)

If you are applying cavity wax to accessible areas, you can use the aerosol version - make sure that you apply a sufficient layer (or more than one) and spray it overlapping by 50% to assure appropriate coat coverage.

  • Step 3

    Step 3

If you are applying cavity wax to internal areas, ideally use the 1 ltr versions with the 3M™ Air-powered Applicator Gun (PN08997).

Supplied with a long tube, this assures good access to inner body parts. Connect the applicator to the cavity wax and insert the tube into the cavity.

Spray cavity wax into the inner part to be protected, whilst slowly removing the tube and pulling it out.

    Repeat as necessary.

Note: Do not apply cavity wax on moving parts, window tracks or exhaust systems!

  • Step4

    Step 4

Once finished using cavity wax, clean your equipment or spray the nozzle clean (aerosol), holding the can upside down, so that you can achieve a proper performance next time you want to use it.

After application, remove any excess material from the panels. Wipe the surfaces clean by using a compliant cleaner, then reassemble the repair parts.
